We are so pleased that you will support our student competitors by judging speech & debate events. Many of our past tournament judges have found the experience highly rewarding. What will the experience be like this year?

We are making some changes to our usual practices. We want you to feel comfortable!


  • We are asking the competitors not to shake hands with you after their speeches or debates.

  • We are placing disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer in each competition room, as well as in the judges' lounge.

  • We are taking away the judges' food buffet and will instead be serving a simple meal. Coffee and prepackaged snacks will be available all day.

  • Our cleaning team will be sanitizing high-frequency touch points regularly.

  • Our competitors will not be required to wear face coverings.

  • We will not require judges to wear a face covering. Please feel free to wear a mask or not, according to your preference and comfort level.

There are many different time slots that you can serve in both Speech & Debate Events. The sessions include time for check-in, orientation, judging and completing your ballot. The orientation will give you all the information you need for judging! You can dress comfortably. Bring a light jacket or sweater.

Refreshment

Coffee and prepackaged snacks will be provided for judges throughout the day. We will not provide a large buffet this year, but we will be serving you a light meal of a salad and/or soup at lunch and dinner. We appreciate your service to our students, and will work to make your investment in this tournament a quality experience. Precautions will be taken to regularly sanitize tables, chairs, doorknobs, etc.
